HOW TO APPLY

GENERAL INFO

The 2008 Goose Route Dance Festival takes place July 10-20, 2008 in Shepherdstown, WV. The Festival includes performances, master classes, classes for kids, talks, outreach events, and teacher training.

There are two weekends of performances (July 11-13 and July 18-20). Each weekend has four performances (Friday night, Saturday matinee, Saturday night, Sunday matinee), with the Friday night and Saturday matinee being the same show and the Saturday night and Sunday matinee being the same show.

Each show is shared by three choreographers/companies, each performing approximately 20 minutes of repertory. Artists are invited to apply to be in one show (20 minutes of repertory) or two shows (40 minutes of repertory), although we make the final decision about whether artists are invited for one or two shows.

Master classes and classes for kids taught by the participating artists are held each weekend. If you are applying to perform and are also interested in teaching adults and/or kids, please submit a proposal for a class as well.

Participating artists are invited to stay for the entire weekend of the Festival, even if they are only performing in one of the shows, and take the master classes (free for Festival artists), attend the lectures, and generally be part of the festivities.

WHAT TO SEND US

Dance artists should send (mail address below; please no electronic submissions) information about the piece(s) they propose performing at the Festival. This information should include:

* which weekend(s) you are available to participate;

* whether you are proposing to be in one show (20 minutes of repertory performed either Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday) OR two shows (20 minutes of repertory for Friday/Saturday performances and a different 20 minutes of repertory for Saturday/Sunday performances)

* the number of dancers in each piece;

*the length of each piece, its mood, music, sets, and anything else you think we need to know about each piece;

* a DVD (or VHS tape) of the piece(s) you propose performing. The video/DVD should show us the finished work, even if it is a rehearsal tape. If there are multiple pieces on one video/DVD, please be very clear about which dance you would like us to look at.

* Finally, don't forget to send information about you and your company (press kit, bio, etc.)!

If you are interested in performing two shows, we need 20 minutes of different repertory for each day; and please tell us which pieces you would want to perform on which day.

CLASS PROPOSALS

If you are also interested in teaching a class, please provide a brief description of the class (what technique, what you will focus on, if it's an improvisation class or a partnering class, etc.). You do not have to teach a class in order to be considered for a performing slot. Please bear in mind that classes are geared for intermediate-advanced dancers, but that is a wide range here -- including teenagers with little experience of modern dance and adult recreational dancers, as well as fellow Festival participants.

We also offer classes for younger kids, so feel free to submit an idea for a kids' class too.

Deadline (postmark) for submission of proposals: DECEMBER 7, 2007.

We plan to notify selected artists by March 1, 2008.

Proposals should be sent to:

GRAC, PO Box 1552, Shepherdstown, WV 25443

Include a SASE if you want material returned to you.
