THE GOOSE ROUTE DANCE FESTIVAL (GRDF)

Founded in 2001, the Goose Route Dance Festival (GRDF) takes place over two weekends in Shepherdstown, WV, on the banks of the Potomac River. The Potomac has long been known to be a migration route for the Canada Goose and was known to the Indians here as "Cohongaroota." Paying homage to place and tradition while also recognizing the ongoing movement in contemporary dance, the Festival is named for the flyway of the Canada Goose.

The GRDF showcases the talents of contemporary dance artists whose work continues in the spirit of this dynamic and quintessentially American art form. Over the course of two weekends, dance artists from a variety of geographic locations perform in historic Shepherdstown, WV, and help to increase public awareness of contemporary modern dance.

The GRDF, directed by dancer/choreographer Kitty Clark, is made possible with major funding from the Mardi Gras Fund and from additional organizations and individual contributors.

Ray Shaw, Beth Burkhardt, and Tosha Tillman, dancers and Goose Route personnel extraordinaire!
