DANCE CLASSES FOR KIDS

MINI MOVERS (ages 3-5)
Big fun for little ones! Dance games are adventures as children explore moving through space, imagine themselves as other creatures, and challenge themselves to try new things, all with a variety of music to stimulate imginations.

Day & Time: Wednesdays, 5:00-5:30 pm

Dates: September 3, 10, 17, 24, October 1, 8, 15 (7 weeks) (* A second 7-week session may be added)

MEANT to MOVE (ages 5-7)
A creative dance class that introduces basic technique while encouraging kids to discover new ways of moving and invent their own dances. Play dance games that make moving fun!

Day & Time: Wednesdays, 4:15-5:00 pm

DANCE CLASSES FOR ADULTS & TEENS

ALL MOVE MODERN DANCE
Rediscover your inner dancer! Stretch, strengthen, express yourself, and experience the joy of moving with others in this challenging yet low-stress, mixed-level class.

Days & Time: Wednesdays, 6-7:15 pm

PERFORMANCE LAB
Transform skills learned in class into dances. A fulfilling challenge to create, learn, rehearse, and perform complete choreography.

Day & Time: Wednesdays, 7:15-8 pm

Instructors: Kitty Clark; Ray Shaw

Cost: $60 ($85 if NOT enrolled in another dance class)

Dates: September 3, 10, 17, 24, October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19, December 3, 10 (14 weeks)

DANCE IMPROVISASTION
Explore the amazing world of dance improvisation. Explore spontaneous movement, interactions with other movers, instantaneous composition, and the sheer delight of moving from internal impulses. A great way to move, learn, and experiment! Appropriate for all levels of experience.

Days & Time: Saturdays, 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Instructor: Ray Shaw

Cost: $68

Dates: September 6, 13, 20, 28, October 4, 11 (6 weeks)

CONTACT IMPROVISATION
Learn, practice and apply the five elements of Contact Improvisation. Skin to skin, sloughing, push and pull, support, and tables will all be covered. This class will also introduces the elements of lifting and jumping. This fun class is a great way to work through personal barriers, learn about yourself and others, and help you de-stress from everyday life.

Days & Time: Saturdays, 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Dates: October 25, November 1, 8, 15, 22, December 6, 13 (7 weeks)

ACTING AND STAGE MOVEMENT
Learn the basic principles of performance and stage awareness through fun and practical exercises. Students will learn stage directions, cues, and basic movement techniques useful in dance and in theatre, as well as have the opportunity to practice and perform a classic monologue. This class will help you break through personal barriers and examine your life through the masks of the stage.

Day & Time: Mondays, 6-7:30 pm

Dates: September 8, 15, 22, 29, October 6, 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17, 24, December 1, 8 (14 weeks)

MINDFUL MOVEMENT - a one-day workshop
Focus on the connection between mind and body and how it affects your everyday movement. This workshop offers insight, techniques, practice, discussion, and practical application, including “Ideokinetic Constructive Rest.” Become aware of your body’s natural movement patterns, elemental anatomy, behavioral patterns that lead to injury, and how to use your mind to improve your movement potential.

Date & Time: Saturday, November 8, 1:00-3:00 pm

Cost: $12 in advance; $15 drop-in

THINGS TO KNOW:

* All classes take place at the Station at Shepherdstown, a beautifully-restored, wood-floored, historic community space on Audrey Egle Drive, Shepherdstown, WV (just 2 blocks past the Yellow Brick Bank Restaurant). There is ample metered parking at the Station.
* DRESS CODE: leggings, leotards, tights, sweat pants, t-shirts, sweat shirts; no jeans or excessively baggy clothing; tennis shoes for hip hop, bare feet for all other classes; hair pulled back from face; no gum chewing
* Family/Multiple Class Discount: 5% off 2nd class or family member's tuition; 10% off additional classes or family members' tuition. Discount only applies to members of the same family.

About the Instructors:

Kitty Clark is the founder and director of the Goose Route Arts Collaborative. She has been teaching dance since the early 90's to a wide variety of students. She has taught motor development-based movement classes for pre-school children, creative movement and beginning dance to young dancers; modern dance, ballet, improvisation, and composition to children, teens, and adults; and beginning to advanced modern dance at the college level at Smith College, Hampshire College, Wilson College, Shenandoah University, and currently at Shepherd University. Kitty is also a choreographer and performer. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in dance from Smith College and a Bachelor of Arts in history from Vassar College.

Ray C. Shaw holds a Master of Fine Arts from Arizona State University. He teaches various forms of dance, theatre, somatic science and lecture courses and has served on the faculties of Arizona State University and Maricopa Community Colleges. He produced an original television course called "Dance in the Movies,” which was broadcast live and in syndication via the Cox Digital Cable Network. His directing career includes an award winning production of "Nunsense II." As choreographer he has won numerous awards and recognition for his work with children, adults, and the professional genre.
